We are humble proud to inform that General Sir Hugh Michael Rose was unanimously elected as Patron of the Former Yugoslavia Balkan Group during our 2025 Annual Meeting.
General Sir Hugh Michael Rose (UK) served as Commander of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Command (BHC) under UNPROFOR from October 1993 to February 1995.
His leadership and contributions during this period were highlighted as key reasons for his nomination.
The nomination was formally endorsed and signed by President Arne Gerrit Halvorsen.
«Throughout his mission, General Rose consistently demonstrated inspirational leadership to both civilian and military personnel. He quickly established a strong and confident relationship with the Norwegian Commander of Norair in Tuzla. Notably, the General was personally involved in key operations utilizing Norair, including the Maglaj operations in March 1994 and the lifting of the Tuzla blockade in January 1995.
On 12 November 1994, I accompanied my Force Provost Marshal, Colonel Miloslav Cech (CZ), to a meeting with General Rose at BHC Headquarters in Sarajevo. The meeting lasted several hours and left a lasting, positive impression on me. This experience, along with the General’s documented record during the civil war in the former Yugoslavia, strongly supports his suitability for the role.
Based on the knowledge and experiences shared among my fellow Norair veterans and myself, I wholeheartedly put forward the nomination of General Sir Hugh Michael Rose as Patron of the Former Yugoslavia Balkan Group.»
With Respect, Arne Gerrit Halvorsen, President, FYBG (Balkangruppen)
